Juvéderm Ultra XC and Juvéderm Volbella XC are the latest additions to the family of hyaluronic acid based dermal fillers that are FDA approved for adding volume to lips that are too thin and flat and diminishing deep vertical wrinkles around the lips, referred to as “smoker’s lines”. The XC means that the gel contains 0.3 percent lidocaine, a local anesthetic that makes the treatment more comfortable.
The Consultation
Before treatment, our clients have a consultation with Dr. Boggess to explain what type of results they’d like to achieve. Dr. Boggess will then evaluate the client to make sure that they’re a good candidate for the fillers and discuss the amount needed for the desired goals.
The Treatment
During the treatment, Dr. Boggess uses syringes filled with Juvéderm Ultra XC and/or Juvéderm Volbella XC and injects the gel into the patient’s lips with fine needles. The lidocaine helps keep discomfort to a minimum. The entire treatment shouldn’t take more than a half an hour. Since there’s no recovery time, the patient may leave the office soon after the treatment is over and resume normal activities.
The Results
Results of the lip filler treatment will be seen right away, though there may be some bruising on the lips that may last for a few days. Most people only need one treatment, and improvements can last for as long as a year. Clients who have a touch-up treatment after a year find that they don’t need as much Juvéderm filler as they did initially.
