Plastic surgery isn’t just for women; guys today are also interested in investing in their appearance and self-confidence by having plastic surgery. That’s why cosmetic procedures, including facelift surgery, are on the rise for men.
Aging skin gradually loses collagen and elastin, causing your youthful, virile features to soften and diminish. If you’re ready to reduce your jowls and rediscover your jawline, we encourage you to keep reading about the customizable facelift techniques I use to help men like you look more vibrant and masculine.
Male Facelift Techniques
As a double board-certified facial plastic surgeon, I never take a one-size-fits-all approach to your facelift surgery. Instead, I tailor each procedure to address your facial anatomy, aging symptoms, and cosmetic goals. This personalized approach may include smoothing wrinkles and creases, lifting sagging skin in the lower face and neck, and creating a sharper, more chiseled jawline.
Based on your specific needs, I’ll use one of these advanced techniques to perform your customized “Reflection Lift:”
Level I Reflection Lift: Often considered a mini facelift for men, this conservative approach is ideal for men with early aging symptoms such as mild sagging and jawline laxity.
Level II Reflection Lift: I perform a SMAS (superficial muscular aponeurotic system) facelift combined with liposuction in the face and neck to address mild to moderate aging symptoms.
Level III Reflection Lift: I address more pronounced aging symptoms such as severe sagging and excessive face and neck laxity during this male deep plane facelift procedure. It involves additional tightening of the platysma muscle and more aggressive mobilization of the SMAS.
Regardless of which technique I use, your male facelift results will look natural and masculine—never “unnatural” or “overdone.” While results vary from patient to patient, you can expect to look at least 10 years younger than before your surgery. Maintaining a good skincare routine and protecting your skin from the sun can help prolong your results.
What To Expect During Facelift Recovery
Most busy guys aren’t thrilled by the prospect of slowing down, but proper facelift recovery requires a few weeks of downtime. During this recovery window, you should expect to take a break from work, the gym, and social engagements to prioritize healing and rest. While most swelling and bruising subsides after 2 weeks, you should allow at least 3 to 4 weeks of recovery before a major social event. It can take 9 to 12 months before the final results of your facelift are fully visible.
Men who combine their facelift with a brow lift or eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) may require additional healing time.
What Are Scars Like?
Many male patients are concerned about facelift scars. They are often relieved to learn that their scars will become virtually imperceptible over time. During recovery, however, it’s important to protect incisions from sun exposure, as UV light can cause scars to darken or become more prominent.
